UCLA Cub Support
"Cub Support is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting students in need of educational support. Our establishment coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when classes shifted to a remote format. This transition posed challenges for students of all ages and exacerbated educational disparities, particularly for those from low-income families and underserved communities. Despite the pandemic's conclusion, lingering impacts on learning are still evident. Cub Support aims to bridge this gap by providing free, virtual academic support to K-12 students."
Tutoring
With Education as a hobby of mine and as a field I can see myself going into in the far future, I find teaching others to be so rewarding. In this organization, I have tutored multiple students 1:1 in a variety of subjects, including reading comprehension, biology, chemistry, and mathematics. A lot of the children I have tutored were from lower-income areas, and I realize the impact of my actions whenever a parent emails me cheerfully to give me updates about their child's achievements. I am a firm believer that all children have the potential to learn and learn properly, but it is really up to the instructor to provide the mentorship and guidance in the right way. My duties as a tutor involved using online resources as well as my own creativity to come up with problems and curriculum to teach the student on a weekly basis. Having tutored in a similar fashion since high school, I feel like I have improved tremendously in my teaching methods. Some children have moved up levels in mathematics at their schools or gotten really good grades back on their examinations after receiving my help. I am grateful for receiving the education I have received and to be going to a university with the ability to focus on my education, and want to encourage other children to have a good relationship with education despite their circumstances. My hopes are that I don't just teach them the concepts they want to learn, but I teach them how to learn so they can eventually go on to train themselves as they pursue higher-level education.
